H.W. Klein

HENRY WALTER KLEIN (*1919)

H.W. Klein was born in Norway to Norwegian mother and German father. In 1949, mathematics and linguistics graduate (and professional sailor!) was admitted to Finn Juhl’s atelier at the Frederiksberg Technical College in Denmark.

After graduation he returned back to homeland to develop new manufacturing method for producing high quality plastic furniture. After he succeed he sold copyright to a couple of furniture producers including Fritz Hansen and Bramin Møbler.

Klein’s designs characterizes principle of functionalism embodied into neat lines full of organic details. Finn Juhl’s influence can be identified in many of his designs.
